The conflict , the bashing across the continent and the sudden compromise were all needed for the summit to win international attention. Then besides all that , the compromise and sudden camaraderie suggested that the two world leaders involved , US President Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un, his North Korean counterpart were headed towards giving the world a rare present in peace engineering.
But before world leaders could conclude bookings for the venue of the summit in Singapore, the two men woke up from the wrong side of the bed and pronto the summit disappeared, as if the whole preparation reports were all fiction. President Trump, in a letter to the North Korean leader announced the cancellation of the summit citing “tremendous anger and open hostility”.
Trump’s decision came shortly after North Koreans disagreed with US Vice President Pence over his warning concerning the summit originally fixed for June 12 this year. A statement from them had described Pence’s worries as ” ignorant and stupid”. Had the summit been held it would have been another June 12 watershed, although on the world stage. But almost like the Nigerian experience , it was aborted, even before due date. Thus Trump had an opportunity to annul another June 12.
