BUHARI, FEC IN EMOTIONAL SEND-OFF FOR FAYEMI

BY TAIWO FAROTIMI

The Federal Executive Council, FEC, on Wednesday, momentarily paused the very serious business of state and metaphorically let down its hairs to celebrate the out-gone Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi, as he formally exited the body.

The FEC, chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari, held a short valedictory ceremony, inside the Council Chambers of Aso Rock Presidential Villa, for the former Minister who is now gunning for the Ekiti State Government House, as the standard bearer of the All Progressives Congres, APC, in the July 14, 2018 gubernatorial election.

President Buhari eulogised and praised the sterling qualities of the former Minister, describing him as a man of uncommon intellect. The President also celebrated Fayemi for the dramatic change and progress he engendered in the Solid Minerals sector while he held sway as Minister.

The President used the occasion to canvass for an aggressive voter education to enlighten the populace on the significance of getting the permanent voters card, PVC, to enable them freely exercise their franchise during the all-important 2019 general elections.

Fayemi’s former colleagues in the federal cabinet also took turns to praise him and wish him luck in his ambition to govern Ekiti State again. On his part, Fayemi thanked them for their cooperation, support and camaraderie while his tour of duty as Minister lasted.
