Confirmed! No Pre-world Cup Win for Eagles
BY BEN MEMULETIWON
Finally, the Super Eagles firmly confirmed to Nigerians that it they were not interested in the passion and emotions of their compatriots at home and in the diaspora as they concluded their woeful preparations for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia with a 0-1 to Czech Republic in Austria.
Wednesday’s loss to less-fancied Czech Republic tasted so horribly bitter as if it were 0-10.
The Eagles B team had started the free fall in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, when they lost 1-3 to Europa champions, Atletico Madrid. The drift continued few days later in Port Harcourt as the Eagles failed to beat the Simba from Congo DR, drawing the game 1-1. The match was played at the Adokiye Amesiamaka Stadium.
The Eagles failed to fly against the Three Lions of England in London, last Saturday, when two quick goals from Cahil and Kane were all the English side needed to clip the Eagles’ wings.
Yet again, the Nigerian side could not redeem the fall as a 25th goal from Tomas Kala put a big question mark on what the senior national team has up its sleeves when they begin their World Cup campaign in Russia next week.
Nigeria plays its first match against Croatia on June 16 before taking on Iceland and Argentina.
