The novel coronavirus has claimed the biggest victim in Nigeria. The Chief of Staff to President Muhammad Buhari died in an undisclosed hospital after succumbing to the deadly virus.
Announcing the CoS demise, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, recalled that Kyari had tested positive to the virus.
Mr. Kyari’ diagnosis came to light on March 23. He was reportedly flown to Lagos for further treatment, March 31.
“The Presidency regrets to announce the passage of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari,” Adesina said in the release.
“The deceased had tested positive to the ravaging COVID-19, and had been receiving treatment. But he died on Friday, April 17, 2020.”
Praying God to rest the soul of the deceased, Adesina said “Funeral arrangements will be announced shortly.”
A Kanuri from Borno State, little is known about the childhood and early life of Kyari, a father of four, who many Nigerians believe was one of he tripod on which the Muhammad Buhari Administration rests.
A 1980 graduate of sociology from the University of Warwick, the deceased, in 1983, bagged a bachelor’s degree in law from the University of Cambridge and was called to the Nigerian Bar after successfully attending the Nigerian Law School.
The following year, he proceeded to the University of Cambridge where he took a Master’s in Law. In 1992, he attendeded the International Institute for Management Development in Lausanne, Switzerland. Two years later, Kyari would participate in the Programme for Management Development at the Harvard Business School.
