NCDC Boss Reveals Those Responsible For COVID-19 Spread
The Director General of the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu has revealed the age bracket of Nigerians mainly spreading COVID-19.
Ihekweazu revealed this during the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 briefing on Thursday in Abuja. He said that Nigerian youths between the ages of 20 and 40 are the ones mainly responsible for the spread of the deadly COVID-19.
He added that the larger number of deaths from COVID-19 were older people from 50 years and above.
As of Thursday, Nigeria has a total of 27,110 confirmed cases of Coronavirus since the outbreak.
Ihekweazu said: “As more people are infected across the world, the numbers are increasing.
“It is obvious that transmission among younger people really, not children, but people aged between 20 and 40 as far as we know are really driving the spread of this virus, but those that are bearing the brunt of it are people age 50 and above.
“Three out of five people who died from COVID-19 are 50 and above so we have to work harder, all of us collectively to protect the elderly in our midst.
He pleaded with Nigerians to observe diligently the safety measures despite the restrictions relaxation and opening of airports.
“Everyone needs to show the elderly citizens love and affection by not exposing them to the virus,” he added.
