Deji Of Akure Orders All Markets Closed For Festival

The Deji of Akure, Oba Adelusi Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo has ordered the closure of all markets and shops in the town next Monday.
The monarch who is the Paramount ruler of Akure kingdom gave the directive in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Michael Adeyeye.
He said the closure is in line with the age-long tradition of the town which forbids commercial activities during some traditional festivals.
He said the closure of the markets will allow the people of the town celebrate this year’s annual Aheregbe and Amole festivals.
The monarch also warned residents against hawking, selling and buying during the festivals, stressing that no trading or opening of shops under any guise will be allowed during the period.
He enjoined traders and artisans in the town and other neighbouring communities to cooperate with the traditionalists during the period of the festival.
However, he informed that the festival will not in any way restrict both human and vehicular movements.
