Party to respect internal democracy

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC rose from a stakeholders meeting in Abuja setting the agenda for the party’s involvement in 2019 general elections. Addressing reporters after the meeting, Simon Lalong, governor of Plateau State, who was flanked by Yahaya Bello, his Kogi State counterpart, said while direct primaries was adopted for the post of president, others would be indirect or as preferred by states.
States have therefore been given the option of applying to the party headquarters should they want the direct primaries. The direct primaries , which Lalong said is in line with the party’s constitution was first used in Osun State this year.
Lalong however said that though the party agreed that all legislators who were persuaded to shun appeals for defection should be rewarded, the meeting agreed that there will be no automatic ticket for any elective position. He said, “We will always support and reward those legislators who were supposed to have been taken away in a deceitful manner but stood by Mr. President and this country. Those that are patriotic to this party and this country will surely be rewarded in one way or the other. That is not automatic ticket because there is internal democracy and we are doing everything to promote our constitution and internal democracy.”
