Pitch Awards 8th Edition to Hold in March, 2022 -Organisers

The only surviving sports awards in Nigeria, the Pitch Awards have scheduled the 8th edition of the event for March 2022.

President of the awards, Shina Phillips, disclosed on Tuesday that  voting for the edition will commence on October 8, 2021.

Phillips told newsmen that the major highlight of the event would be the presentation of Special Achievement Awards to well-meaning Nigerians including the First Lady, Aisha Buhari “for her hosting the of the Aisha Buhari Invitational Women’s Football Tournament.”

“Others to be honoured are Daniel Amokachi, the Senior Special Assistant to President on Sports who played a pivotal and historic role in Nigeria’s first appearance at the World Cup; and the President of the Nigeria Football Federation Amaju Pinnick for his contribution to the advancement of the game in the country.”

Phillips said over 170 sports journalists across the country had been involved in the process at different times, adding that they have also activated digital mechanisms to make voting easy for all voters and to ensure collation of results faster.

“As in previous editions, voting forms and criteria will be mailed to voters and collation will be done by SIAO partners,” he added.

He also stated that the venue of the 8th edition of the awards will be announced at a later date.

Former winners of the awards and top football dignitaries attended the Tuesday conference  including Pinnick, who was represented by the NFF Director of Communication, Demola Olajire.
