State of the Nation: Tunde Bakare Set To Explode Today

By Damola Emmanuel

The Nigerian media and political circuit will vibrate again this morning as the Serving Overseer of The Citadel Global Community Church, CGCC, Pastor Tunde Bakare, appraises the state of the nation in a live television and zoom broadcast.

Going by the tenor of the programme’s promotional clip made available to The Crest, the event, like the previous ones, promises to be explosive as the pastor-turned-rights activist and politician, will make bombshell declarations that may give the polity and the political class a lot to chew for some time.

Titled: The Black Box of Nigeria’s Politics, the broadcast, scheduled to hold inside the church’s auditorium on Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Lagos, from 11 a.m. will be beamed live on the African Independent Television, AIT, and through zoom.

In the promotional clip, Dr. Bakare said: “Fellow Nigerians, we are gathered here again to take a timely look at our nation, to examine its social, economic and political landscapes; to test the solidity of its value pillars; to interrogate its spiritual foundations; and to envision its future.

“If we are going to build this nation, we can’t afford to be spectators. We’ve got to be stakeholders. It is stakeholders that will build Nigeria, not spectators.”

Earlier on Saturday, The Citadel Global Community Church had held a programme to mark the first anniversary of the inauguration of the CGCC Diaspora Family Fellowship, via zoom, during which the fiery preacher ministered on the theme: Rebuilding The Ancient Ruins.

Dr. Bakare was the vice-presidential candidate to candidate Muhammadu Buhari in the 2011 presidential election which they lost. But in the prelude to the 2015 race, he was dropped and Professor Yemi Osinbajo, former Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Lagos State under then Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was fostered on Buhari.

Bakare accepted the party’s decision in good faith and campaigned vigorously for the Buhari-Osinbajo ticket. Fortunately, the ticket won the 2015 presidential vote with a landslide.

Although Pastor Bakare has never hidden his interest in the 2023 presidential race, he is yet to make a formal declaration of his intent and reveal the political platform he would use.
