“I’m on Top of My Game” – Iwobi
Nigerian striker, Alex Iwobi is enjoying every bit of his football at the Emirate Stadium under new coach, Unai Emery. The Super Eagles star has been in a sparkling form since the beginning of the season and he says he is thriving in a pressure-free environment under the coach.
This must be a piece of cheering news to both Arsenal and Super Eagles fans all over the world even as Iwobi will be on the firing line Thursday evening when Arsenal take on Qarabag FK in the UEFA Europa League Group E cracker and the coach says the Nigerian is important in every match this season. The player is also expected to lead the Super Eagles to victory in the AFCON 2019 qualifier against Libya next week.
Arsene Wenger had demanded that Iwobi scored 10 goals and provide at least 6 to 10 assists last season and that put serious pressure on the player who failed to do so in 39 appearances. The pressure was so severe that his game went down abysmally.
Iwobi came off the bench to score and assist in the 2-0 win over Watford last Saturday. And the Nigerian says he is playing with a new found freedom.
“There’s no pressure or weight on my shoulders,” said Iwobi. “I’m just enjoying my football. The team is enjoying the new style and the new things we’ve brought into training so it’s not just me that’s enjoying playing with freedom, I’d like to say it’s not just me playing with freedom, it’s my team-mates as well.”
