2023: APC Eyes Wike as Fayemi, Sanwo-Olu, Akeredolu, Fayose Visit Him in Port Harcourt
There were speculations, Friday, that the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, may be wooing Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike to its side as it revs preparations for campaign for next year’s presidential election.
Indications to this effect followed a closed-door meeting that three APC Governors, and a former Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Peter Ayodele Fayose, a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, held with Wike on Friday.
Fayose led the three APC Governors to the private residence of Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike in Port Harcourt for the closed-door meeting.
The APC helmsmen included Dr. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State.
Though details of the closed-door meeting were not disclosed, political pundits believed it might be in connection with the 2023 presidential election.
Since losing the PDP presidential ticket to former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Wike, has never hidden his displeasure at the turn in his political fortunes. His anger was further aggravated by the manner the candidate brushed him aside in his choice of running mate, picking Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, Delta State Governor, in his stead.
Before he flew to France for alleged medical reason, last week, the APC presidential flag-bearer, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was reported to have met with Wike. But the Tinubu media office vehemently debunked the report.
