Yes, you have heard or read that, baring any odds, Rebecca Welch will make history as the Premier League’s first ever female referee when she takes charge of Fulham’s clash against Burnley on Saturday, December 23, 2023.

But there are certain things you may not have known about the 40-year-old trailblazer.

Here are eight things you need to know about Welsh; as extracted from www.sportbible.com:

1. Welch previously worked with the NHS as an administrator, and while she became a referee in 2010, continued in her post until 2019

2. Rebecca Welch became the first female referee to take charge of a full EFL game when she officiated Harrogate vs Port Vale in 2021, after having officiated in the EFL for several seasons.

3. The same season, she was added to the EFL’s national group list, which resulting in her taking charge of men’s FA Cup matches. Welch previously officiated games in the National League.

4. She was also in the middle for the Women’s FA Cup final in both 2017 and 2020.

5. She is a regular face in the Women’s Super League.

6. his season, Welch has officiated three games in the competition, and was also involved in three games at last August’s Women’s World Cup, co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

7. Earlier this year, she became the first female referee to take charge of a Championship match; and just on November 25, 2023, Welch officiated in Birmingham vs Sheffield Wednesday.

8. On November4, 2023, she was the fourth official in Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage.
