Bobrisky Arrested By EFCC

Nigeria’s controversial cross-dresser, Bobrisky, whose real name is Idris Okuneye is now cooling off with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, after he was arrested Wednesday night. by the anti-graft body.

Bobrisky’s offence, according to the EFCC, is mutilation of the Naira currency.

Bobrisky was arrested at Pinnock Estate in Lagos.

The spokesman of the anti-graft commission, Dele Oyewale, said: “Bobrisky is with us. He was arrested last night in Lagos, and he is at our Lagos command. We arrested him for alleged abuse of naira notes, spraying of naira notes, and currency mutilation, among others.

“We are very serious about restoring the dignity of the naira. Though our investigation is still ongoing, but he will definitely be charged to court soon.”

Recall that the cross-dresser has always been involved in one controversy or the other with the latest being the declaration that he/she emerged as the best dressed female at the premiere of Eniola Ajao’s film, Beast of Two Worlds.

The event which was held at Circle Mall, Lekki, was condemned by many who saw it as a promotion of obscenity.

Nigeria’s law is against transgender and LGBTQ+ rights

Bobrisky’s arrest comes barely 24 hours after the Nigeria Police Force stated that it lacked enough evidence to arrest him for same-sex activities.

The Nigeria Police Force on Tuesday said it could not arrest Bobrisky over calls to arrest the crossdresser.

There have been calls for Bobrisky’s arrest, especially after social media influencer and blogger, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan in recent videos condemned the award of Best Dressed Female to the cross-dresser at a Nollywood event.

However, the Force Public Relations Officers, Olumuyiwa Ademola told Channels TV on Tuesday that cross-dressers cannot be arrested because Nigeria has no law against cross-dressing.

He also said there is no evidence to support claims that cross-dressers also belong to the LGBTQ+ community.

He said, “There are some cases that are always very difficult to prove.

“I’m not ruling out that we have many of them. Let us be reasonable, you can’t have someone you want to prosecute without having credible evidence against them. I have not read anywhere where cross-dressing is an offence in Nigeria.”
