Fubara to Swear in Newly Elected Council Chairman Today

  • Less than 24 hours after the conclusion of Saturday’s local government election in Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, takes another giant step today, Sunday, October 6, 2024, as he will swear in the newly elected council chairmen at the Executive Council Chambers of  Government House in Port Harcourt at 4 p.m.

The Secretary to the State Government, Dr Tammy Danagogo, revealed this in a statement he issued Sunday, October 6, 2024.

Danagogo, in the statement, said that the newly elected chairmen, accompanied by one guest each, are expected to be seated by 3:30 pm.

Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, Justice Adolphus Enebeli (retd.), had, Saturday, declared 22 chairmanship candidates of the Action Peoples Party, APP, winners of the Saturday, October 5, 2024 local government elections in the state.

Enebeli, also the Chief Electoral Commissioner for the election, while declaring the results in Port Harcourt, said that the candidates scored majority of the valid votes cast in two-thirds of their respective wards.

But he deferred the announcement of results from Etche  local government area because collation was still ongoing as a result of the massive geography of the area.

With this afternoon’s swearing in of the freshly elected Chairmen, local administration takes off full blast in the state.

The occasion will also mark a significant landmark in the battle of supremacy between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
