Dangote Refinery: We’ve not Instituted New Suit against NMDPRA, NNPCL
...To withdraw extant suit in January 2025
The Dangote Group, owners of Dangote Refinery, has denied reports of a plan to institute a fresh law suit against the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA.
Rather, it declares that it will withdraw the ₦100bn suit it slammed against the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) in June 2024 for granting import licenses to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Matrix Petroleum Services Limited, AA Rano Limited, and four other companies despite local production of petroleum products.
The Group, in a statement late Monday, described the matter as an “old issue” which had its genesis in June 2024, culminating in the suit filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja on September 6, 2024. Events had clearly overtaken it, the Group said.
The Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Mr. Anthony Chiejina, informed that the parties involved in the suit have commenced conciliatory talks following President Bola Tinubu’s directive on Crude Oil and Refined products sales in Naira Initiative following earlier approval by the Federal Executive Council, FEC.
“We have made tremendous progress in the regard and events have overtaken this development,” Chiejina declared in the statement.
“No party has been served with court processes and there is no intention of doing so. We have agreed to put a halt to the proceedings.
“It is important to stress that no orders have been made and there are no adverse effects on any party. We understand that once the matter comes up in January 2025, we would be in a position to formally withdraw the matter in court.”
