Sex Tapes: Equatorial Guinea’s Anti-Corruption Tzar, Baltasar Engonga, Fired

...President Mbasogo announces replacement

Baltasar Ebang Engonga, Director General (DG) of Equatorial Guinea’s National Agency for Financial Investigation, has been fired after leaked tapes showed the anti-corruption boss having sex romps with many high profile women, most of them married, including the President’s sister, wives of Ministers and senior public officials, local media have reported.

Ahora EG , a local media outlet reported that President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, on Thursday, fired the randy DG and named Zenón Obiang Obiang Avomo as the new Director General of the agency.

Another local news platform, Real Equatorial Guinea, reported that President Mbasogo fired Engonga for “irregularities committed in the exercise of his functions, as well as inappropriate family and social conduct for the performance of public functions, as stated in Decree number 118/2024, dated November

Engonga, a 54-year-old economist, was arrested on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, following the discovery of over 400 explicit videos in his residence containing salacious sex romps with his brother’s wife, Prtesident Mbasogo’s sister, many VIP women including the wives of Ministers and the country’s Director General of Police, among others.

The discovery, which instantly triggered a national umbrage and media uproar, was made during a surprise search of the house of Engonga by ANIF operatives. The anti-corruption tzar is currently at the centre of a fraud allegation investigation.

A report by Ahora EG revealed that the steamy sex videos were allegedly recorded with the women’s consent, discovered during a raid on Engonga’s office and later leaked online, causing national embarrassment.

To prevent re-occurrence and possible ethical violations, the government has introduced some strict measures, including suspending officials caught in similar misconduct and installing surveillance cameras in government offices.

A word about Engonga’s successor:

Zenón Obiang Obiang Avomo holds a law degree from the National University of Equatorial Guinea (UNGE). He has previously held various positions, including Magistrate Judge of the Institution of Malabo, Director General of Contract Studies and State Markets at the Ministry of Finance and Budgets, Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance, Economy and Planning, and Secretary General of Mines, Industry and Energy.
