Why We Visited Obasanjo-Atiku

Former Vice President and Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2023 election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has declared that contrary to popular thinking, his visit, Tuesday, to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, had nothing to do with the politics of 2027.

“It’s just a courtesy visit, please,” he told journalists after the closed- door meeting held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, Ogun State. “I am not going to talk about politics.”

But few people will take that explanation by Atiku with a pinch of salt. This is because the former Vice President has ever left anyone in doubt that he is still very fervent in his resolve to become the nation’s number 1 citizen.

Indeed, in recent times, he has stepped up consultations with political allies across the country, and sometimes across party divides, seizing every opportunity to antagonize the Bola Tinubu Administration.

On Atiku’s entourage to his former boss are: former Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, former governor of Cross Rivers State, Senator Liyel Imoke, among other political stalwarts from the north.

Atiku and his entourage arrived at Obasanjo’s Abeokuta residence located within the precinct of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library at exactly 12:37pm, and was received by elder statesman and long-time Obasanjo ally, Otunba Oyewole Fasawe.

They went straight upstairs into the closed-door meeting with Obasanjo.

They emerged from the meeting at about exactly 2:11pm.

As usual, mum was the word from ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, on the real reason Atiku and the other political heavyweights visited him.
