Tinubu Hails D’Tigress on Historic Quarter-Final Qualification at Paris 2024 Olympics
After days of nationwide protest and turbulence over the economic hardship roiling Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu had something to cheer on Sunday as Nigeria’s female basketball team scored an historic victory over Canada and qualified for its first ever quarter final ticket in the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympics.
Consequently, the President has sent hearty congratulatory message to the victorious team.
A statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, said Tinuu “warmly congratulates Nigeria’s D’Tigress on qualifying for the quarter-final of the women’s basketball at the 2024 Paris Olympics,” recalling that D’Tigress will be the first African team in basketball to play in the quarter-finals at the Olympics.
“The President,” Ngelale continues, “commends the team for their uncommon demonstration of resilience, teamwork, and diligence.”
Ngelale also said President Tinubu also commended the coach and managers of the team “for their dutifulness and dedication”.
He enjoined the team not to rest on their oars until the final victory is won.
The President then assured the team and the entire Nigerian contingent at the 2024 Olympics of his support as they fly the nation’s flag at the global sports fiesta.
