World leaders are united in condemnation of the series of deadly attacks that befell Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday leaving over 200 people dead so far and hundreds of others injured. While President Donald Trump of the United States of America, USA says his government was ready to offer help to Sri Lanka in this terrible situation, the Indian Prime Minister Chowkidar Modi who condemned the barbarism in the region says on twitter “India stands in solidarity with the people of Sri Lanka.” The stream of supports came as Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe convened a national security council meeting even as he assured that “the government is taking immediate steps to contain the situation.”
The British Prime Minister, Theresa May said: “The acts of violence against churches and hotels in Sri Lanka are truly appalling, while Pope Francis reacts thus, “I wish to express my affectionate closeness to the Christian community, hit while it was gathered in prayer, and to all the victims of such cruel violence”. German Chancellor Angela Merkel says, “religious hate and intolerance that have showed themselves in such a terrible way today must not win”.
Before noon on Easter Day about seven attacks had been reported in Sri Lanka with about 207 deaths recorded and over 450 people wounded. The affected churches are said have been filled with worshippers who were there to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The three churches affected are located at Negomo, Colombo and Batticaloa. Aside from the churches, about four hotels at the capital were also bombed.
In the process of emergency operations and police raids, the security also lost its staff, because just as they were clearing some scenes and striving to help the injured further attacks were recorded. There are reports that hospital workers are overwhelmed with the influx of the injured.
However, the security operations appear to have yielded results, as seven suspects are in custody already.
