In Ondo, Police Rescue 50 Children from Kidnappers’ Underground Cell inside Church
At least, 50 innocent children, locked in an underground cell inside a church in Ondo town, were reported to have been rescued by the police.
They were found in an underground apartment of the church in the Valentino area of the town.
The children were allegedly kidnapped and kept in the underground apartment of the church for trafficking.
The pastor of the church, whose name is given as David Anifowose has been arrested by the police while the children have been taken into custody, according to police report.
The police also arrested some members of the church.
Funmilayo Odunlami, the police spokesperson in the state, confirmed that preliminary investigations were ongoing and details would be made available to the public as soon as possible.
She said further work was ongoing to establish the details of the crime.
Odunlami noted that the victims had been taken to the State CID in Akure headquarters of the command.ⓘ
“The command is aware of a case of suspected abduction in Valentino area of Ondo Town,” Odunlami told journalists in Akure.
“We urge the people of the state to be calm as the State Criminal Investigation Department has taken over the case.”
