Nigeria’s Super Falcons romped into the second round of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, holding in Australia and New Zealand.
The Nigerian amazons led by Randy Waldrum played was held goalless by the Republic of Ireland side that was playing for national pride after losing their first two matches to Australia and Canada.
The Falcons missed several begging chances but were cautious not to allow a slip even though Australia walloped Canada 4-0 in the second match played simultaneously to finish top of Group B with six points.
The Super Falcons came second with five points from three games to advance.
Nigeria started the global women’s football fiesta on the high with a hard-fought 0-0 draw against the Olympic champions, Canada in the opening match followed by a stunning 3-2 victory over co-hosts Autralia.
