Tinubu Mourns Na’Abba

President Bola Tinubu has condoled with the family of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives who passed on this morning in Abuja, aged 65.

A release by Presidential Spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, said the President “sympathizes with the Na’Abba family, the government, and the people of Kano State over the passing of Ghali Umar Na’Abba (CFR), former Speaker of the House of Representatives.”

The late Na’Abba was Speaker of the House Representatives (from 1999 to 2003) at the onset of democracy in Nigeria, having succeeded Salisu Buhari whose tenure was short-lived following a scandal.

“President Tinubu,” according to Ngelale, “expresses profound grief at the loss, recalling the contributions of the late ex-lawmaker to nation-building through legislation, advocacy, and policy.

“The President recalls Speaker Na’Abba’s determined struggle to defend the functionality and role of the legislature in governance, describing him as a disciplined and resolute politician.

“President Tinubu prays for the repose of the soul of the departed and comfort for those who mourn this painful loss.”
