Enugu State Commissioner of Health is Dead
The Enugu State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Anthony Ugochukwu, is dead.
The former Provost, College of Medicine at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUTH died Friday night at the Memfy’s Hospital, Enugu, after a battle with an undisclosed illness.
Ugochukwu was flown outside the country to get treatment, shortly after he took ill after assuming office. He was, however, returned shortly before the COVID-19 became a pandemic.
According to reports, he was treated in a few local hospitals to help alleviate his illness.
Mr Jeff Mbah, the House member representing Oji River Constituency in the Enugu House of Assembly, confirmed the death of the Commissioner, and described the late Surgeon as “a genius and friends to all.”
In his words, “His death is a great loss to both Enugu state and Nigeria. We are talking about a renowned Professor of Surgery who has a lot to offer in turning around our health sector. It is a terrible blow.”
As the time of filing this report, there has not been an official statement from Enugu State Government.
