Mohammed Adamu confirmed as IGP
...Governors delighted by his performance and ability, says Fayemi
The National Council of State, at its meeting held Thursday inside the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, confirmed the Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr. Adamu Mohammed, as the nation’s substantive Inspector General of Police.
Adamu’s confirmation was announced at the meeting by President Muhammadu Buhari who presided over it.
Buhari appointed Adamu, a native of Lafia, Nasarawa State, acting IGP on January 15, 2019, succeeding the former IGP, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, who retired at the attainment of the mandatory retirement age of 60.
Adamu, who holds a bachelor’s degree in Geography, enlisted into the police on February 1, 1986, as Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police.
A crack cop, he attended several senior officer courses on law enforcement, crime prevention, control and management within Nigeria and abroad.
Prior to his appointment as the acting IGP, on January 15, he was a Directing Staff at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos, Plateau State.
He had also served as Commissioner of Police in Ekiti and Enugu States, as well as Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 5 Police Command Headquarters, Benin, Edo State.
