EFCC releases Ubani, ex-vice president of NBA, Senator Enai

After about three weeks in the detention camp of the anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Monday Ubani, ex-vice president of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, is now a free man.

He was released Thursday, April 11, by the anti-graft agency

He travails of the ex-NBA vee pee began on March 19, 2019, when he was arrested and detained alongside Christopher Enai, a senator, for failing to produce the former Managing Director of Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, NSITF, Mrs Ngozi Olejeme who they both stood for as sureties.

Mrs. Olojeme has a N6.4billion fraud charge hanging on her neck.

Ubani had consistently pleaded his innocence in the suspect’s sudden disappearance, maintaining that the woman absconded after the EFCC raided her home

The ex-NBA vice president had also maintained that he elected to stand surety for Mrs. Olojeme because he compelled her to return to Nigeria to face the charges against her. And all efforts to secure her bail had been frustrated by the EFCC.

Ubani’s arrest, on Tuesday, March 19, 2019, had elicited public opporobrium especially after a Federal High Court had ordered the EFCC to either set him free or charge him to court.

The Crest recalls that Justice Silvanus Oriji of an FCT High Court sitting in Abuja had, on Tuesday, April 9, 2019, granted leave for substituted service on Mr. Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of the EFCC, following the submission of  the lawyer to counsel to Ubani and Senator Enai, Chief Mike Ozekhome ,SAN,.

Also on Tuesday, March 26, Justice Oriji had similarly granted leave to an exparte motion filed by Ozekhome for the EFCC to either charge Ubani and Enai to court or release them on bail on or before March, 28, 2019.
