The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has extended voting period in problem-prone polling units across the country.
Festus Okoye, INEC Commissioner for Voter Education, announced this at a press briefing in Abuja, following complaints of late arrival of materials and epileptic card readers from some parts of the country.
The commissioner said INEC arrived at the decision to ensure that legitimate voters are not disenfranchised in today’s exercise due to some unforeseen delays in the process..
There had been reports of delays as a result of late arrival of INEC officials in some places across the country.
The Commission, however, says categorically that extension will be by amount of lost hours at polling units where voting did not begin at scheduled time of 8 am.
