Leah Sharibu, the Christian girl who was abducted alongside 109 other girls from their boarding school in Dapchi, Yobe State, has become a mother. Her captors, Boko Haram, may have also broken her resolve to stick to her religion, Christianity, as she is reported to have converted to Islam.
Reports said that the lone captive delivered a baby boy sired by a Boko Haram commander, Saturday morning, in Niger Republic.
The Crest recalls that some 110 girls, between ages 11 and 19,were kidnapped from their Government Girls’ Science and Technical College (GGSTC), Dapchi, on February 19, 2018, by the terrorist group, Boko Haram.
Dapchi is in Bulabulin, Yunusari Local Government area of Yobe State, in northeastern Nigeria.
But while the insurgents set free 106 of the abducted children, they held back Leah Sharibu, a Christian girl who was just 14 at the time, for allegedly refusing to renounce her faith and convert to Islam. That was on March 21, 2018.
Since then, Nigerians and organisations across the world have been clamouring for her release. At some point, rumours were rife that the terrorists may have murdered the girl. But the Federal Government kept reassuring that Leah was alive.
Reports announcing her delivery of the baby, early Saturday, quoted a source who said Leah was married off to a top Boko Haram commander living in a neighbouring country.
One of the reports actually quoted the source as revealing that the terrorist group had planned to release her months back but held back because of her pregnancy.
