Breaking: EFCC Arrests Saraki Over Fresh Laundering Allegations
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested a former president of the Nigerian Senate, Bukola Saraki, in after fresh allegations of theft and money laundering surfaced.
Saraki, a former governor of Kwara state was detained on Saturday, sources say.
This new development may unravel another episode of troubles for the former Senate President.
As senate president between 2015 and 2019, Mr Saraki spent a considerable time facing allegations of corruption and false declaration of assets. He was acquitted by the Supreme Court in June 2018.
Premium Times reports that this new case is for Saraki to answer to questions surrounding alleged theft and laundering of public funds facilitated by his usage of proxy companies.
According to reliable sources, the network of proxy companies headed by Sarakai has siphoned millions in a strategised flow of money.
