For failing to rein his supporters who almost caused mayhem at the party’s presidential campaign rally at Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Monday, thus seriously embarrassing the president, the All Progressives Congress, APC, vowed, on Tuesday, to impose severe sanctions against the host Governor, Ibikunle Amosun.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu said that the party regretted Monday’s alleged premeditated attacks purportedly sponsored by Governor Amosun on President Muhammadu Buhari and other chieftains of the party at the rally.
Issa-Onilu said the party would review the ‘gross misconduct’, and act according to the party’s constitution to forestall future occurrence. Party supremacy and discipline, he reiterated, were not matters of choice but binding principles which must be strictly adhered to by all party members regardless of their status.
“This is one act of indiscipline too many,”Issa-Onilu said. “The APC will not condone acts of indiscipline, indiscretion and anti-party activities from any party member no matter how highly placed.
“The party will review this gross misconduct of deliberately positioning thugs to attack and embarrass the President and the party’s leadership. The party will take a decision on this matter immediately after the elections,” the statement read in part.
Meanwhile, Issa-Onilu urged members and the party’s supporters not to be discouraged by Monday’s show of shame. Rather, they should renew their strength and be inspired by the fact that victory was just a matter of days away, and troop to the remaining rallies in their numbers.
Most importantly, he urged them to troop out in their millions to vote President Buhari back to power on Saturday.
