Onnoghen’s lawyer, Omotayo Yusuf Adegboyega Awomolo has let the cat out of the bag telling Nigerians the real reason why embattled Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen resigned.
Awomolo explained that the suspended CJN resigned in the interest of the judiciary. The lawyer confirmed that Onnoghen resigned on Thursday, April 4. Awomolo said he spoke with the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria who said he took his action on behalf of the judiciary.
He said: “I have just spoken with him. He confirmed to me that he resigned yesterday. “He said he resigned in the interest of the Judiciary.”
Meanwhile, the presidency has yet to confirm the receipt of a letter of resignation by the suspended Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Walter Onnoghen, 24 hours after the speculation went viral. The News Agency of Nigeria reliably gathered that Onnoghen’s resignation letter was submitted to the Chief of Staff to the President, Malam Abba Kyari, by some Justices of the apex court. NAN, however, learnt that the affected Justices arrived at the presidential villa few minutes after President Muhammadu Buhari left Abuja for Jordan to participate in the World Economic Forum (WEF) on Thursday. A presidency source confirmed to NAN that President Buhari had, before his departure, received the National Judicial Council’s recommendations on the petitions written against Onnoghen and the acting CJN, Justice Tanko Muhammad
