The Police Service Commission, PSC, rose from its fourth plenary, on Tuesday, and announced the appointment and approval of a new Management Team for the Nigeria Police Force to help the Acting Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mr. Mohammed Adamu, steer the ship of the Force to a safe shore.
The new management team comprises eight Deputy Inspectors-General of Police. DIGs, whose appointments was made to reflect the six geo-political configuration of Nigeria.
All the appointments takes effect from Tuesday, January 28, 2019.
There was, however, a dramatic twist in the exercise. One of the new DIGs, Usman Yakubu, was directed to start his terminal leave, even as the PSC, under the chairmanship of Mr. Musiliu Smith, a former Inspector-General of Police, approved the retirement of the seven former DIGs who were the Acting IGP’s seniors.
Spokesperson of the PSC, Mr. Ikechukwu Ani, who broke the news via a press statement listed the other seven DIGs as Aminchi Baraya, the most senior Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) from, and representing the North-East; Usman Abubakar, representing the North West; Abdulmajid Ali, former AIG, representing North Central; and Frederick Taiwo Lakanu, former AIG, Operations, and until his appointment, the Force Secretary, representing the South West.
Others are: Godwin Nwobodo, former AIG, Border Patrol, presently AIG, Zone 7, Abuja,, Wudil, Kano, representing South East; Anthony Michael, former CP, Ebonyi and Delta States representing South-South; and Yakubu Jibrin from North Central.
The Commission’s Chairman, Mr. Musiliu Smith, urged the new management team to give their best to thte force in their new position and cooperate with the acting Inspector-General of Police in the onerous task of making the Nigeria Police Force of the 21st Century that the country deserves.
