King Osimhen bags First Award with Galatasaray
Despite initial hiccups occasioned by transfer complications, Nigerian international, Victor Osimhen, is at it again, back fully on winning ways!
The 25-year-old Super Eagles goal poacher has won his first Turkish Super Lig award shortly after joining Galatasaray on loan from Napoli.
Osimhen’s text-book goal against Kasımpaşa which still gets fans talking and thumbing, has been voted the Goal of the Week by beIN SPORTS, after securing 77.96% of the total votes cast in a poll.
Osimhen scored his first goal and followed it up with his first brace, but it was not enough to secure all three points for the Turkish champions, who gave up a three-goal lead to allow the visitors a share of the spoils.
The Nigerian displayed superlative skill and deadly accuracy as he volleyed home with his left foot after receiving a pass from former Napoli teammate, Dries Marten, giving his team a crucial 2-0 lead.
Notwithstanding his pre-season trauma and drama induced by transfer complications, Osimhen has speedily in the minds of fans as a super utility vessel for Galatasaray.
Apart from scoring, he has provided crucial assists in all four of his appearances for the club.
He took his season tally to two goals and four assists in four games for the Lions since joining on loan from Napoli.
Despite the sterling start, injury still dogs Osimhen’s steps as he is currently sidelined after he picked a knock during the league game. This forced him to miss last Wednesday’s Europa League clash against RFS in Latvia. But he is expected to return full blast soon
Indeed, there are indications that he could return to action this weekend when Galatasaray take on Alanyaspor in the Super Lig.
Meanwhile, the former Lille player has revealed the key role Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk played in convincing him to join the club.
“Okan Buruk is the key to my transfer,” Osimhen told A Spor. “I was incredibly impressed when I spoke to him.”
The initial loan deal sees Osimhen at Galatasaray for four months. But his impressive start has led to speculation of a potential extension.
Despite the star’s loan move, there are reports that Premiership giant, Chelsea, are in love with him and they are ready to bait the Nigerian super striker with a €90 million carrot in the January transfer window.
