2 Months after Losing His Father, Nwabali’s Mum Dies

Super Eagles and Chippa United (of South Africa) first choice goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, has been thrown into deep mourning again.

Two months after he lost his father, his mother has also died.

Nwabali, 28, announced the mother’s passing on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, on his X account, @nwabalibobo, with tears and heartbreak emojis, saying:

“RIP mom, worst year of my life already.”

“A very very crazy world indeed,” he posted before sharing the news.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has sent condolences to the national goalkeeper and his Family.

“Our heartfelt condolences to Stanley Nwabali on the loss of his mother,” the NFF wrote. “Stay strong, Stanley. Sending you strength and support during this difficult time. You are not alone; we are all with you.”

The death of Nwabali’s father was announced in November 2024, few hours after the goalkeeper was in goal for the Super Eagles in their 1-1 draw against the Benin Republic during their penultimate 2025 AFCON qualification match.

He was excused from the Nigeria-Rwanda match at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, to enable him bury his father.

The Super Eagles lost the match, 1-2. But the loss didn’t matter much as the national team had already secured a ticket for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.

Horror as Mum Shoots 2 Sons, aged 9 and 12; Boys Battle for Life

    By

Two Pennsylvania boys were on life support Monday after their mother shot them in the head while they were in bed at home in a wealthy Philadelphia suburb, authorities said Monday.

The boys, ages 9 and 13, will remain hospitalized until their organs can be donated, a spokesman for the Bucks County district attorney said Monday night.

Trinh Nguyen, 38, was charged with three counts of attempted criminal homicide and one count of possession of an instrument of crime. She was accused of shooting her two sons and trying to shoot her neighbor before fleeing in a white minivan Monday morning, the Bucks County District Attorney’s office said in a news release.

County District Attorney Matt Weintraub said at a news conference Monday once the boys’ organs are transplanted, “we will upgrade these charges to two counts of homicide.”

Nguyen was taken into custody around 11:30 a.m., about four hours after authorities responded to a 911 call from the neighbor, the district attorney’s office said.

Video of the arrest captured by NBC Philadelphia showed her in what appeared to be pajamas.

According to court records, Nguyen was being held without bail.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether she has a lawyer to speak on her behalf. Court records didn’t list one.

According to the affidavit, authorities were dispatched to a home in Upper Makefield Township shortly after 7 a.m. when a man reported that he’d been leaving to go work when his neighbor, Nguyen, approached him with a box of photos.

Nguyen asked that he give the photos to her ex-husband, with whom the neighbor works, the affidavit says.

When the neighbor turned around, Nguyen pointed a black revolver at his face and pulled the trigger twice, the affidavit alleges. The gun didn’t fire, it says.

The neighbor bear-hugged and disarmed Nguyen, who told him the gun wasn’t loaded — even though several rounds were found in the chamber, the affidavit says.

After Nguyen fled and the neighbor alerted police, authorities checked her home and found the two children.

“Upon entry both boys were found still alive but in their beds with gunshot wounds to their heads,” Weintraub told reporters.

Authorities released a “wanted” bulletin describing Nguyen as armed and dangerous.

She was found at United Methodist Church in Washington Crossing, a few miles east of Upper Makefield, NBC Philadelphia reported.

She was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center, “due to the indication that she was under the influence,” the DA’s office said.

It is believed that she ingested narcotics in a bid to take her own life, though Weintraub didn’t disclose what drugs may have been involved.

“There were other evidentiary indications that she intended to take her own life but was unsuccessful,” Weintraub said.

“I have two kids. It can’t hit any closer to home than this. I’ve been saying my prayers ever since I got this call this morning,” Weintraub said. “It’s a very difficult image to get out of my head.”

When asked if the gun was registered to Nguyen, Weintraub said: “She’s not been charged with any firearms offense so I think it’s a fair assumption that she possessed that gun legally.”

Court documents show that Nguyen was in a rent dispute with her landlord Corinna Tini-Melchiondo claiming Nguyen owed over $11,000 in rent in arrears, or unpaid rent.

That case was filed in November 2021. A judgement was entered December, Nguyen appealed but lost, and an order for possession was issued April 18, court records show.

The Council Rock School District Acting Superintendent Susan Elliot told NBC Philadelphia she was “deeply saddened” by the shooting.

“A tragic event is always difficult to process for all of us, especially our children,” Elliott said. “We tend to process such information in different ways and at different paces. It is not uncommon to experience difficulty eating, sleeping, or concentrating.”

The district is offering support to students and staff in light of the shooting.

Princess Christiana Monisola O. Ajulo: Celebrating A Quintessential Mother @ 87

Despite her limited educational background, my mother remains the best educationist I ever passed through; my first and best teacher ever. I am a lawyer and I daresay that Maami is my first Law teacher. She taught me the rules of life, ethics, values and what it meant to be an ”Omoluabi”
My mother, Mrs. (Princess) Christiana Monisola O. Ajulo (nee Adedeji), is 87 years old, and I cannot but to celebrate her on the occasion of her glorious and purposeful 87th birthday.
Over the years, she has come to win the love and adulation of all who adore her. Beyond her sound sense of elevated style, which is evidently observed in her choice of modesty; give it to Maami, she is an embodiment of humility, decency, grace and warmth.
Despite her limited educational background, my mother remains the best educationist I ever passed through; my first and best teacher ever. I am a lawyer and I daresay that Maami is my first Law teacher. She taught me the rules of life, ethics, values and what it meant to be an ”Omoluabi”, a philosophical and cultural concept that describes a man to be of excellent and enviable character .

Maami never spared the rod and as I write this, I still feel with nostalgia and trepidation, her occasional squeezing of my long ears. Maami is a great disciplinarian, a slave driver. I can vividly recall my first alphabets with her in this interesting mold, she taught me valour, trust, magnanimity, benevolence, integrity, respect for others, boldness, and the virtue of being candid and fearless at all times.
She was trained as a seamstress, what is known today as Fashion Designer. She taught me how to sow, which made me to design all my cloths till this day. Later, she became a textile merchant and subsequently digressed into books and stationery business. Maami owned the famous TI OLUWA NI ILE BOOKSHOP (NIG) LTD (TONIB) with branches in some cities and towns in the South West of Nigeria, namely; Ibadan, Ilesha, Ondo, Akure, Osu, Ikare, Awe and Oke -Imesi respectively.
She loves Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti that she ceaselessly regaled me with her exploits at Alake of Abeookuta’s Palace; and her acquaintances with the famous Kutis family in Abeokuta as she preferred that I become another Fela and Beko combined but without the ”Igbo” (Marijuana)
Retrospectively, I was weaned in the bookshop, grew up to first recognize books. As a toddler, I was told that I had no toys but books. Maami might not be a politician, but very politically conscious, she is always guiding everyone around her to avoid the pitfalls of life.
I want to thank my mum for all the unwavering support she has given me over the years. She has always been my biggest inspiration, most encouraging champion and greatest sounding board. She has always told me to never fear flying higher and that ”impossible” is just a mere word which can never exist in my dictionary and to date I am a living proof.
    Dr. Kayode Ajulo

Maami, no other person in this world who can love me deeply than you. No one can understand me profoundly like you do. There is no other person in this world who can motivate and incite me as much as you do. The sweetest words, the most expensive jewels or the grandest of luxuries can ever compare to the gratitude brimming in my heart for you.
Irrespective of my overflowing imperfections and my countless mistakes, you often offer me your affection, so open-heartedly and unmatched. My heart is filling with appreciation for all the years of love you have showered me with. Honestly being a mother is not an easy task; I am still awestruck on how you successfully and perfectly make motherhood looks so effortless and stay so graceful at the same time.
It won’t be out of place to address Maami as the mother of our nation, a woman of substance, a truly wonderful woman and Nigeria’s greatest and most ebullient mother. May you continue to eat the fruits of your labour, deservedly so.
Right from her youthful years and now as octogenarian, her life has been a source of love, strength and blessings to her loved ones and all those around her. I celebrate you today at 87 and I pray that the Lord grants you many more years of peace, joy, good health, prosperity, resounding victories and abiding fulfillment.
Happy birthday to you Maami. This is a milestone worth celebrating. Congratulations.

Herdsmen Kill 8 Persons, Mother, Her 4 Children, Others in Benue Attack

At least eight people, including a mother and her four children, have been killed by gunmen suspected to be Herdsmen at Yelwata Community in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

The herdsmen also injured two persons and abducted one other person in the attack which they carried out at about 6p.m on Tuesday evening.

Speaking to journalists on the phone, Chairman of Guma LGA, Mr. Caleb Abah, said the attackers invaded the community on Yelwata market day while the people were still in the market and opened fire killing eight people and injuring others.

He stated that the attacked was unprovoked explaining that his people had no problems with the Herdsmen before the attack.

“Yesterday (Tuesday) was Yelwata market day and the people were still in the market around 6p.m when the Herdsmen came and started shooting sporadically. In the end, eight people were killed, two were injured and one person was abducted. He is yet to be released till now,” he said.

The council boss added that the injured have been taken to a private hospital for treatment since the doctors in government hospitals are still on strike.

A local who doesn’t want to be named described the attack as shocking saying but for the quick intervention of troops of the Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), and the police who stormed the area to repel the attackers, more people would have been killed.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Akingbola Olatunji, has condemned the attack saying police teams have been detailed to the area for safe keeping.

The Commissioner who spoke through the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Catherine Anene said, “yesterday, 24th August, 2021, at about 7:45pm, the police got information that unknown gunmen invaded Yelwata community and attacked the first compound that is nearest to the forest.

“Policemen immediately were sent to the area and were able to repel them.”

He, however, regretted that before the police arrived, the gunmen had shot six persons they met in the first house.

He said while the police took the six persons to the hospital, they were confirmed dead on arrival while two other persons were still receiving treatment.

The Next Edition reports that the Commissioner of Police has visited the community to condole with the community.

He assured the people of Yelwata that the police will continue to support them by deploying more men to cover up the loopholes.

“We will continue to safeguard lives and property of residents. We will not leave them in the hands of hoodlums,” he said adding that two police teams have been sent to Yelwata and more are still on their way.
