Why AfDB President, Adesina Rejected Calls to Contest for 2023 Presidency

Presidents of African Development Bank, AfDB, Nigeria’s Akinwunmi Adesina has given reason why he rejected the purported N100 million All Progressive Congress Nomination and Expression of Interest forms allegedly bought by a group of farmers.

Adesina said:  “I remain fully engaged and committed to the mission that Nigeria, Africa and all the non-African shareholders of the African Development Bank have given me for Africa’s development .

Adesina, a former Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture, was reacting to calls by some Nigerians to vie for the 2023 Presidential ticket of  the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement on Tuesday widely circulated, Adesina said his current responsibilities would not allow him to respond to calls for the presidency and  thanked Nigerians for their goodwill.

“While I am deeply honoured, humbled and grateful for all the incredible goodwill, kindness, and confidence, my current responsibilities at this time do not allow me to accept to be considered.”

According to him, he is extremely humbled by several calls from home and abroad for him to view for the presidency of Nigeria.

“I’m touched by such calls and the sacrifices Nigerians had made for him to vie for the illustrious office.”
