The Ogun State branch of the African Democratic Congress, ADC has criticized Ibikunle Amosun, governor of the state over some uncompleted projects in the state. The party, in a statement by its publicity secretary, Abiola Oduntola said the projects which are mostly roads and bridges have created untold hardship for residents who have had to contend with pricey vehicle maintenance and transportation.
ADC is of the opinion that the development has increased the poverty situation in the affected areas of Magboro, Akute, Lambe , Agbado, Ijoko-Ota and Sango. The party is particularly concerned that the cost of the roads and bridges in the areas which scheduled completion period was put at 2013 may have gone up by about 300%, thus affecting the finance of the state. ADC said this was due to problem of policy on the part of the Amosun administration.
Enumerating the plight of residents in the area, the ADC states, “Residents are the ones bearing the brunt of the state of the projects as the cost incurred on car maintenance and transport fares in the areas have gone up by over 200 per cent in the past years. When it rains, some residents have to rely on some men, who carry them on their backs like babies.”

Meanwhile, these are projects that were supposed to have been concluded within the first two years of the administration but have left the areas in a parlous state six years after take off. The ADC therefore advised the governor to ensure that he completes the projects before handing over power next year. It also called on the electorate to develop the culture of asking questions about matters affecting development of their communities.
While affirming that “There is secrecy in the preparation, enactment, and implementation of the budget in the state, as well as a pervasive lack of transparency, conspired to keep citizens in the dark as to what their government owes them”, ADC implored the people to “rise and save the state from the ruling party, which claims to open the state for business while inflicting poverty on the people that elected it to power.”
