Kano State To Slash 2020 Budget By 30%
In the light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Kano State Government under the leadership of Dr Abdullahi Ganduje has set a plan in motion that would see a 30 percent cut in the 2020 budget, as a measure to tackle the effects of the pandemic.
Ganduje made this revelation at a press briefing held at the Africa House, Government House, Kano on Monday
According to the governor, the fiscal document would address workable cuts, before taken to the Kano State Assembly for further legislation and passage.
The governor said, “We are reviewing our budget with 30 percent cut, just to match with the challenge posed by this COVID-19 pandemic as is the case world over. The reviewed document will soon be taken to the State House of Assembly,” he explains.
In the statement, Ganduje said the budget slash would reflect in on-going projects. However, he said, he would ensure that “the service to humanity is still and will continue to be our priority.”
He added that there would be no compromise in the security of the state, health, education among critical sectors of the state.
All the processes of reviewing the document, governor Ganduje said, “Are open and transparent. We are enjoying more prudence in the process, so that we continue to have a prudent-laden and transparency-compliant fiscal document just as when we started, ab initio.”
