The Northern Elders Forum, NEF, Wednesday, descended heavily on President Muhammadu Buhari, over the rising spate of insecurity in Nigeria, declaring that the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, had failed.
The NEF spokesman, Mr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, made the scathing criticism on Channels Television flagship political programme, Politics Today, submitting that Nigeria was losing the war against terrorism in the northeast, and the President should, therefore, resign.
“We are exercising our democratic right to say to a President that he has failed, he should resign,” Bbaba-Ahmed declared. “There is nothing wrong with that. Buhari was elected to perform the job, he hasn’t performed the job. We are asking him to resign.
“Are we winning this war or we are losing it? The truth is that we are losing this war because of an enemy that they described as anything else other than the equivalent of our military. They cannot be as good as our military.”
Baba-Ahmed was not done. He also opined that living in Nigeria was more dangerous under President Buhari.
The NEF spokesman also lamented that the military was overwhelmed as it was involved in fighting insurgency in the northeast, banditry in the northwest, and other internal security challenges in other parts of the country.
“Under President Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria has become increasingly more and more dangerous for Nigerians to live in.
“The military is also involved in the northeast. They are fighting bandits, they are fighting bandits. They are doing everything, both what they are supposed to do and what the police should do.”
Baba-Ahmed’s vitriolic remarks came five days after Boko Haram terrorists slaughtered 43 farmers in Zabarmari, Borno State.
The gruesome massacre on Saturday, November 28, 2020, triggered national and international umbrage with many Nigerians, including the National Assembly members, calling for the sack of the nation’s service chiefs, whom, they said, had failed in tackling the roiling security challenges in Nigeria.
