Ilorin, the Kwara State capital is reeling in shock and palpable sorrow over the news of a love-struck police sergeant who shot his lover dead in a church and killed himself on the spot.
Residents woke up, Thursday morning, to the horrible news that the police officer, Michael Olalere, with official number F/NO 497093, attached to Kwara State Police Command, committed the gory act inside the Chapel of Redemption, Agba Dam Housing Estate, Ilorin, at about 8.30 a.m. The same gun was used for the murder.
Residents trooped to the church to behold the gory spectacle of the lifeless bodies of the tragic lovers, which sprawled in their own blood on the floor of the church. Both corpses, it was observed, had bullet wound on their heads.
The police had not revealed the identity of the murdered lady at the time of this report.
Confirming the sad incident, Mr. Paul Odama, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police said that preliminary investigation revealed that the tragic duo were lovers whose affairs went sour.
Speaking on the tragic incident, the Police Commissioner ruled out police brutality, revealing that the corpses had been moved to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital mortuary.
“At about 08:05 hours of March 2, 2023,” Mr. Odama said, “information reached the Command that a man in police uniform later identified by his name tag as F/NO 497093, Sergeant Olalere Michael “m,” attached to 15 PMF, Ilorin, went to Chapel of Redemption, Agba Dam Housing Estate in Ilorin, shot and killed a yet-to-be-identified lady, then shot himself in the head and died.”
He said detectives and regular policemen were sent to the scene of the tragedy as soon as the information got to the Command. And after preliminary crime scene investigation, the bodies were evacuated to the morgue.
“The Command wishes to state clearly that the deadly incident was an aftermath of love gone sour and that it has nothing to do with police brutality,” Odama said.
“Meanwhile, investigation of this unfortunate incident is in progress, and the report of the investigation will be made public as soon as it is ready.”
