Rape Offenders To Be Castrated As Punishment For Rape – Kano Assembly
The Kano State House of Assembly, on Wednesday, begun the process to amend the State’s Penal Code amendment (No.12), the law of 2014, to give room for castration as punishment for rape offenders in the state.
The motion was presented by a member, Nuradeen Al-hassan, representing Rano Local Government Area seeking for a revamp of the law.
In the plenary session presided over by the Speaker, Abdulazeez Gafasa, the majority of the Assembly members were unanimous in the decision.
Calling for harsher punishment, Al-hassan said the current punishment of 14 years jail-term is not enough for offenders.
He, therefore, called on the house to review the law and amend it so as to ensure castration as punishment for rapists.
