Fayemi’s Aides Raise Alarm Over Alleged Planned Violence
...... They Also Warn Fayose's Loyalists against Fomenting Trouble
BY ABIODUN NEJO
The Media Office of the Governor-Elect, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has warned Governor Ayodele Fayose to stop plans to poison waters along the grazing zone of Ekiti State to kill cows belonging to the Fulani herdsmen.
The office also warned the governor to stop alleged planned attacks on All Progressives Congress (APC) members with imported hired assassins as a reprisal for their roles in Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loss in the last weekend’s governorship election.
In a statement by the Director of Media and Publicity in the office of the Governor-elect, Wole Olujobi, in Ado Ekiti on Friday, the Office called on security agencies to investigate allegation of importation of assassins to Ekiti State to kill APC members and as well comb every nook and cranny of the state to fish out the assailants.
Olujobi said: “A string of public announcements on radio had alleged plan by the governor to poison waterways along the grazing zone of the state for mass killings of cows of Fulani herders to instigate ethnic violence in reaction to the loss of PDP in the last weekend’s governorship election in which All Progressives Congress (APC), candidate, Fayemi, beat his PDP counterpart, Prof Kolapo Olusola”.
Consequently, he warned Fayose against plots to instigate any violence capable of leading to loss of lives of innocent citizens.
The statement reads in part: “We have heard and read reports of alleged plans to send assailants against members of APC, particularly aides of the Governor-elect, Dr Fayemi, to pay with their lives for the roles they played in the victory of their principal that threatened Fayose’s political survival.
“We have also read reports of plans to poison waterways along the grazing zone of the state for mass killings of cows to stoke violent ethnic clashes between Fulani herdsmen and their host communities, including alleged importation of thugs to attack the opposition, all in attempt to make the state ungovernable for the incoming administration of Dr Fayemi.
“By this statement, we warn Fayose against these alleged plots because this is not the first time that governorship election would be won and lost and after that the participants always allowed the peace to reign. Ekiti people will not allow these desperate moves as if politics is the only means of survival.
“We call on the security agencies to investigate allegation of importation of assassins to Ekiti State to kill members of APC, particularly those who played one role or the other that led to Fayemi’s victory and loss of Fayose’s candidate, Olusola Eleka.
“We also call on the security agencies to comb every nook and cranny of the state to fish out alleged assailants lurking around to kill members of APC”, it concluded.
