After Kano, Mystery Deaths Sweep Through Jigawa, Over 100 dead in 10 Days

After wreaking so much havoc in Kano, the wave of mystery deaths that almost brought the ancient city to its knees is shaking neighbouring Jigawa State to its foundation.

Within the past 10 days, over 100 have reportedly died from some yet-to-be-identified diseases in Hadejia Local Government Area of the state.

A report by the Channels Television said this was revealed by the Special Assistant to the Local Council Chairman on Media, Sani Kakabori who told the television house that at least 10 people die every dayin the last 10 days in the local government area.

All the victims were said to be above 50 years of age.

As it was at the onset of the mysterious deaths in Kano, the cause of the mysterious deaths in Hadejia LGA is yet to be determined but the Jigawa State Government has established a five-man committee to investigate the matter and make appropriate recommendations.

The State Commissioner of Health, Dr Abba Zakari, who also doubles as Chairman of the state Task Force on COVID-19, told the television house that the investigating committee is headed by Dr Mahmud Abdulwahab. Members include: Shehu Mohammad, Yusuf Hakimi, Shehu Sule, and a representative of the World Health Organization, WHO.

The committee, according to the commissioner, is to submit its report in three days.
