1 Student injured, none Abducted as Gunmen Attack Plateau Varsity
What would have been another sad chapter in Nigeria’s security situation was averted, Tuesday night, as eagle-eyed security operatives of the Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, effectively repelled an attack by gunmen on the institution’s female hostel.
The gunmen launched the attack apparently with the intention of kidnapping students from the hostel. One student was, however, injured but none abducted during the attack.
The Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr. John Agams, confirmed the incident to journalist in Jos, the capital, informing that all the students were safe.
“The criminals attacked the institution to kidnap students but they were repelled by the local security men in the university,” Agams said. “It is true that gunmen attempted to kidnap some of our students, but the attempt was repelled by our local security men.
“In the process, one student was injured, but no student was abducted. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Benard Matur, is currently at the school premises and appealing to students to be peaceful.”
According to Thisday newspaper, the police command in the state was yet to comment on the attack as at the the time it reported the incident.
