Insurgency: Nigerian Air Force Fighter Jet Missing

A Nigerian Air Force fighter jet used for the prosecution of the war against insurgency in the North East has been declared missing, having lost radar contact.

The fighter jet was said to be on routine mission in support of troops at one of the Theatres of Operation in the Northern part of Nigeria.

The announcement of the missing fighter jet was made early Thursday by the spokesperson for the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet.

He however, added that efforts were ongoing to locate the aircraft.

His words: “A NAF aircraft on routine mission in support of own troops at one of the Theatres of Operation in the Northern part of Nigeria has lost radar contact. Efforts are currently ongoing to locate its whereabouts.”

The spokesman added that “The loss of radar contact occurred at about 5:08 pm on 31 March 2021.

“Details of the whereabout of the aircraft or likely cause of contact loss are still sketchy but will be relayed to the general public as soon as they become clear. Meanwhile, search and rescue efforts are ongoing.”
