Businessmen lands in court for impersonating police, printing fake identity cards
Three businessmen, who allegedly produced fake Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) identity cards and impersonated the Police, were on Thursday brought before a Kano Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The accused — Abdulhamid Adam, 35, of Sauna Quarters, Kano, Victor Egboh, 49,of Bata, Kano and Femi Omole, 50, of Brigade Quarters, Kano — are facing a four-count charge of criminal conspiracy, impersonation, forgery and cheating.
The trio entered a plea of `not guilty’.
They were, however, released on bail in the sum of N200,000 each with two reliable sureties each.
Chief Magistrate Muhammad Jibril, who gave the ruling, said one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the accused, while the second surety must be a civil servant not below Grade Level 14.
Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Insp. Pogu Lale, told the court that the accused were apprehended on April 24 through an intelligence gathering from Zone 1, Police Headquarters in Kano.
According to him, since 1992 Adam has been deceiving the public and parading himself as the Police Public Relations Officer of Zone 1, bearing DSP Kabiru Shehu.
He said Adam conspired with the second accused, Egboh, who has been printing PCRC identity card forms for him illegally.
The prosecutor alleged that the third accused, Omole, had also been supplying Adam with stickers, banners and key holders belonging to the police.
“Adam has been collecting money from the public and issuing fake PCRC identity cards to them.”
The offences contravened Sections 97, 364, 322, and 312 of the Penal Code.
The case has been adjourned until June 19 for mention.
