Melaye Reappears, Faults Police Denial
Melaye Returns From Wilderness
BY TAIWO FAROTIMI
It is the second tweet about his safety in three days. The first by his brother senator, Ben Murray Bruce and the second he did himself. Murray Bruce had announced the abduction of Dino Melaye, the dramatic senator representing Kogi West in the Senate.
Bruce tweeted the report based on a report by Melaye’s brother who reportedly claimed that the senator had been abducted by some unknown gunmen at Gwagwalada, near Abuja.
Perhaps because of the public image of Melaye and the fact that he was expected to put up appearance at a court same day to defend allegations of gunrunning, there were questions about the veracity of the claim. His tweet announcing his reappearance:
Senator Dino Melaye
@dino_melaye
I thank God once again for escaping another dangerous attack. I also thank Nigerians for their prayers and show of Love. Spent 11 hours in the wilderness traumatized but God preserved me. God is the best and in whom ONLY I trust. They will continue to try. WE SHALL OVERCOME!!!

Today Melaye reappeared, stating that he had a grueling eleven-hour period in the jungle. But more importantly, Melaye in another tweet showed a copy of the statement that his brother allegedly wrote at the police station. So why was the Police insisting that they had no record of the claim by the brother that Melaye was missing?
However, if the senator did that so as to evade court appearance on Tuesday, the same court will be waiting for him on the new date.
