2019: Fayose Set To Dump PDP Over Atiku

BY ABIODUN NEJO

Dissatisfied with the turn of events and outcome of last Saturday’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primaries, Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has threatened to quit the party.

Fayose said on Monday that he would renounce his “membership of PDP any time from now,” after having consulted widely.

The presidential primaries were held during the PDP National Convention in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, on Saturday. And former Vice President Atiku Abubakar emerged the party’s presidential flag bearer.

The outgoing Ekiti State governor, who did not support Abubakar during the exercise, told journalists on phone that he did not regret his decision to support another aspirant.

Fayose said: “We have no regret aligning with River State Governor Nyesom Wike to support their Sokoto State counterpart, Governor Aminu Tambuwal, for the presidential ticket and no apologies either.

“We kept the party alive and strong when most men became ladies. We never compromised. If any group feels it can do it alone, we will see how far they can go. I may renounce my membership of the party if the need arises.

“Meanwhile, we will continue with our consultations while watching the turn of event. We cannot but appreciate leaders that have intervened so far, but this release became necessary to avoid fresh crisis or misrepresentation,” the governor said.
