PDP? They’re Craps, Perennial Failure -Tinubu

… No Opposition in Lagos, It’s 'O T'ope', Not ‘O To Ge’

By Olusegun Adeosun

The National leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, stresses that APC is the only political party in Lagos, that there is no opposition.

The former governor of Lagos State stated this shortly after voting at ward 003, polling unit 047 at Alausa, Lagos during Saturday’s gubernatorial and State House of Assembly elections. “We are going to win. We are the only party in Lagos. The rest are repeaters. Every four years they come out and they go back to their shell after elections,” Tinubu said.

Asked if he was afraid that his party is threatened in its strong hold by the ‘O to gee’ slogan, Tinubu said: “Lagos is not Kwara. Are we from Kwara? Where is the threat? PDP in Lagos continue to behave like leopard which can never change its skin. We belong to the progressives, we are progressive and we are going to win this election.” he said. He continued by saying “there is a limit to copycat. Lagos should be ‘O t’ope’ (meaning something to be thankful for).

Commenting on the conduct of the election, the APC chieftain commended INEC on logistical preparation, but called for extension of voting period in areas where voting exercises were delayed due to reported agitations of INEC ad-hoc staff over non-payment of their allowances, especially in Ogudu, Kosofe LGA. The staff were eventually paid and deployed, along with security agents at about 3:20 pm.

“INEC should extend voting time since some of their locations started late. INEC started very well early enough, logistically, then, why their staff arrived late, I cannot explain. They should extent time to accommodate who have persevered and waited to vote for the candidate of their choice,” he said

On the widely observed low turnout across the state, Tinubu said it was an unusual situation. According to him, the politicians need to device means of encouraging people to always come out to vote during elections.

“In terms of security, Lagos has been good and violence-free. I take exception to Okota incident two weeks ago, as if we are violence-prone. I am very upset about that. As if we were violent people. You have 1,325 polling units and only five units were affected by Okota incident. But, to you people, it is only the incident that is the story.

“I can’t explain better than that. Only 5 units out of 1,325 units were affected by violence and you now reported that we were a violent people. You are not doing justice to us; you are not doing justice to yourself; you are not doing justice to the economy; you are not doing justice to your own medium of information and to INEC themselves.”

Tinubu also enthused that Lagos has seen tremendous development since he was a governor. “The monthly internally generated revenue of this state was N600m, today it is over N30 billion. No state has achieved financial independence as Lagos, no other nation. They depend on allocation from federal government. Lagos today will not depend on any allocation before we take care of our capital need

.“We build roads everywhere across the state. The real estate value of Lagos State, property owners has exponentially gone better than every other state of this country. Lagos State is the 5th largest economy in West Africa. Let me see who is the governor, who is the leader who has done that.” he said.
