Police arrest 270 kidnappers, rescue 27 victims

The Nigeria Police Force have said that Operation Puff Adder, the initiative of the acting Inspector-General of Police to quell the ever rising violent crimes in the country, was yielding dividends.

A release issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, FPRO, Mr. Frank Mba, a Deputy Commissioner of Police,  disclosed that the police have rescued, unhurt, 27 kidnap victims.

The rescued victims included the five Chinese who were abducted on April 15, 2019 in Bobi, Niger State.

The Chinese, according to Mba, were rescued on May 5, 2019 from a forest in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State, “following painstaking investigative efforts, including both air and ground surveillance.”

Mba also revealed that two of the kidnappers were killed during  exchange of gun fire with the police in the course of the rescue mission.

The remaining 22 victims were rescued in Zamfara State and other parts of the country, the FPRO said, adding that between January 2019 and the first week of May, the police arrested 270 suspected kidnappers, 275 suspected armed robbers, and recovered 105 assorted weapons, plus a large cache of ammunition.
