PENGASSAN President, Francis Johnson, is dead
President of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, Francis Olabode Johnson, is dead.
General Secretary of PENGASSAN, Okugbawa Lumumba, confirmed that Johnson, who mounted the saddle of PENGASSAN leadership in 2014, succumbed to an undisclosed illness in the early hours of Friday.
Lumumba, who disclosed that members of the union had visited the bereaved family to pay their condolences, informed that the association will issue an official statement later.
Johnson, an employee of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, won re-election for a second term in office in 2017, and would have served out his final term in 2020.
One of the high points of his presidency was the effective mobilisation of members of PENGASSAN against the privatization of the NNPC. This was in addition to leading the struggle for the reform of the oil and gas sector of the nation’s economy.
