A big surprise may spring up in the Bayelsa State governorship election. In the results so far announced in six Local Governments by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, David Lyon, the All Progressives Congress (APC), governorship candidate, is leading his co-contestant from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Duoye Diri by 86,000 votes.
Put differently, the APC candidate is leading so far in four out of the six local government areas, getting a total of 206,260, compared to Diri’s 119,930 from six LGAs. The difference: 86,000 votes, tilting the scale in favour of Lyon.
Local governments whose results have been collated are Brass, Kolokuma/Opokuma, Nembe, Ogbia, Sagbama, and Yenagoa.
The Returning Officer is the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Faraday Orunmuwese.
